Cut from the Same Cloth

Riley has grown particularly fond of one of the kitchen mats. You might think, "well, what's so weird about that? She's a baby and babies love different textures," or maybe even, "babies gravitate to things with color on the ground-so it makes sense!"

But I know where all this truly originates.
Her Dad.

When Chris and I were walking through the stores with our awesome registry gun, I was surprised how focused Chris was on making sure we had a rug for our new home. Once we got to the rug aisle, he walked down the rows of rugs almost reverently, feeling the rugs and vocalizing his dream of one day purchasing one of the big rugs when we have a home that will accommodate it ("it just makes a house a home, don't you think Babe?"). And if you ask him what his favorite decoration for our reception was, he won't skip a beat in proudly laying accolades on the fluffy rug my mom bought for us to stand on for when we were in the line greeting guests.

As I sit here watching Riley carefully feeling the Christmas sink rug and constantly returning to it during her explorations, I become more and more sure that history is repeating itself through the next generation.
